Tell us about you sports; fitness; and/or life background:
I was reasonably fit through the end of college – then took about a decade off from physical fitness.
What is your “Something Better” that you hope to achieve with CrossFit Prelude:
I’m a new dad, and it’s easy to to put fitness on the very back burner. I want to be in the best shape I can be for my son and my family. The comradery and coaching at CrossFit Prelude help meet this goal. I think the benefits of working out in this specific environment make me a better husband and father. I want to be fitter than I am now at 55.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel:
I first got exposed to CrossFit as I was searching for alternatives to working out with DVDs in front of my television – which is what I had been doing for about a year prior to my first CrossFit class. It was lonely and and monotonous and I needed a change. I did not enjoy my first workout, or my second, third, or fourth. I felt weak and clumsy. I was sore for 2 weeks. After about my 5th class though, I was hooked.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after):
Increased mobility and leg strength, better balance and coordination, and better endurance are some of the more noticeable changes.
What keeps you coming back. What motivates and inspires you:
I love the people. I workout with my friends. I like seeing other members make big gains and improve. It pushes me to do the same.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit Prelude moments:
I really enjoy the park WODs. I also like partner WODs. Teamwork pushes me to go harder.
Any advice for people just getting started:
Stick with it. It does become addictive – and that’s a good thing.
