Kelly:  I Love The Changes I See In Myself, And The Encouragement Of The Awesome Coaches That Really Care

PicsArt_09-22-01.37.54

I think I have lost about 20 or so pounds, however, I don’t own a scale. I know I have gone down 4 sizes and enjoy shopping again.

Hometown:  Belmont, NH

Age:  31

Occupation:  General Manager at The Hard Shell Downtown

When did you first start CrossFitting:

October 2014

When did you first start training at CrossFit Prelude:

October 2014

Favorite WOD/Movement:

I enjoy the running workouts and doing workouts where we do as many repetitions as possible of various exercises.  I also really enjoy when we get workouts that can be done outside!

Least Favorite WOD/Movement:

Burpees or Wallballs…depends on the day, they’re both evil!
Tell us about you sports; fitness; and/or life background:

I have danced my whole life and was a dance major in college.  I was also involved in sports all through grade school, volleyball, cross country skiing, and track and field.  I was 5th best in the state for discus my senior year of high school 😉 .  I started running when I graduated college and my competitive nature enjoyed beating my own times, I’ve completed several 5Ks, an 8K, 10K, 10 miler, half marathon, and two full marathons (first one in San Francisco…not a solid plan!).   I was a member of American Family for 8 years and did plenty of classes and tried to get stuff done on my own but would get pretty bored easily.

What is your “Something Better” that you hope to achieve with CrossFit Prelude:

Well there is always the “look better naked” aspect, but I would really really love to be able to do a damn pull up!

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel:

I can easily carry a keg from the walk in cooler downstairs to our bar upstairs now, and get frustrated when guys try to take it from me!

I have a sorority sister that owned a CrossFit gym with her husband and she always said such amazing things about it.  I decided to try CrossFit Prelude out when they had the open house, and it took me a few months after that before I got serious and signed up.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after):

I can easily carry a keg from the walk in cooler downstairs to our bar upstairs now, and get frustrated when guys try to take it from me!  I think I have lost about 20 or so pounds, however, I don’t own a scale.  I know I have gone down 4 sizes and enjoy shopping again.  The first nutrition challenge I did, over Thanksgiving and Christmas (mean!), was eye opening.  I didn’t realize how many carbs I’ve been consuming, and the first week was pure hell, but after getting over that hump things got so much better.  I now keep up with a 80/20 clean diet and it works very well for me.  Also…cutting out that much gluten has seriously cut my migraines down to almost nothing…super happy neurologist!  BONUS!

What keeps you coming back.  What motivates and inspires you:

I love the change I see in myself, the encouragement of the awesome coaches that really care, the 6am family is amazing and they keep me so motivated!

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit Prelude moments:

Deadlifting 30 lbs over my body weight.  Also when I got one of my besties to join (Stephanie Gausby) and to be able to see her transformation and drive!

I love the change I see in myself, the encouragement of the awesome coaches that really care, the 6am family is amazing and they keep me so motivated!

Any advice for people just getting started:

Be patient and make sure you come back for the second time, don’t let the soreness keep you away or fear of what you don’t know.   These coaches are amazing and so patient and talented, you’ll be doing things you never knew you could in no time!
