Tell us about you sports; fitness; and/or life background:
Besides one season on the basketball team in middle school (only because they didn’t cut anyone that tried out), I focused on swimming until college. When I turned 25, I wanted to start taking better care of myself and never really liked using machines at the gym so I found an outdoor boot camp. I loved being outside, training with body weight/minimal equipment and having constant variety in the workouts. This lead me to running my first half marathon in 2011, and I’ve run two more since that time. I also picked up yoga over the years and then Ryan got me more involved in lifting weights…which eventually lead us to CrossFit!
What is your “Something Better” that you hope to achieve with CrossFit Prelude:
As a movement, I want to do be able to do some pull ups.. and be able to knock out 20 push ups without dropping to my knees! But overall– I just want to maintain a healthy lifestyle by pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, and by trying new movements all while having fun.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel:
I went to an outdoor bootcamp for a few years and then Ryan officially introduced me to CrossFIt. I think the first workout we did was Cindy (with some help on my pull ups). First WOD at Prelude was running and dumbbell snatches.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after):
I feel so much stronger, especially in my core and I’m starting to see more definition in my legs and arms. I definitely pay attention to my sleep habits more than before.. otherwise 6am workouts are not possible.
What keeps you coming back. What motivates and inspires you:
I love trying new things and pushing myself in ways I would never do on my own. The workouts are always different and challenging but at the same time, it’s encouraging to see improvement on the movements.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit Prelude moments:
I love the sense of community. Everyone in class is there to cheer you on and the size of the classes allow you to get to know everyone. The CrossFit Open workouts were fun!
Any advice for people just getting started:
Just show up. It’s really all it takes to get hooked. Also.. regular stretching/yoga/mobility work will do wonders!
